Since when did PC games cost £44.99?

Whilst perusing my local GAME store I happened to glance at the shelves adorning the Coming Soon section and there it was.......

QUAKE 4 £44.99 out 21/10/05.

I couldn't believe it, PC games used to be at least £5-£10 cheaper than their console brethern and now they're at least £10 dearer. (As most Xbox and PS2 new releases now sell at £34.99.) What the F...?

So a quick scan around the interweb reveals

www.gameplay.com QUAKE 4 £27.99
www.amazon.co.uk QUAKE 4 £26.99

and here's the one which really cracked me up

www.game.net QUAKE 4 £26.99 THAT'S £18 CHEAPER THAN IT'S OWN BLIMMING HIGH STREET SHOP!!!!!!!!!

You decide where you are going to get your copy, I know where mine is coming from!

places like game make their money from those who are not too clued up or have money burning a hole in their pocket. There may even be those who really *must* have it as soon as they see it. for the rest of us who see no point in wasting beer tokens, the internet awaits!

As long as there are folk who will pay at that price there will be those who will be more than happy to charge it!

Try asking the manageress at GAME Coleraine she's bound to have a few spare quid lying around after charging £18 extra for nothing!

The worst ive seen is PC World for this

1st option

You can order a graphics card online and collect at the store
an hour later for £89.99.

2nd option

work into the store and pay £150.00.

You can understand why their doing it, their trying to compete
with online retailers such as ebuyer, aria etc, hoping they will flag
up in a froogle or something.

I said about 10 years ago when I worked in retail that
online shopping would be the future. Very little overheads, passing
the saving onto the consumer, there's really no contest.

Tbh PC World is s***.. I work there..... But i must admit thier collect at store service is a good idea and have found some really good deals... whenever i buy something from the shop i work i just oder it via website and a minute later it goes thru the tills cheaper than the bloke standing next to me (+ i get staff discount)

Its mad... but there are good deals... so it may sometimes be worth checking out pcworld.co.uk and if price is good (remember there is no delivery charge) just moveing order to collect at store basket and then mosy on down and ignore the stupid sales advisors and get a cheap deal and have it today!

They brought the price down to £34.99 for Quake 4 at my local GAME store after everyone gave them grief. Yay for people power. :D

LMAO its not £99

There was a promo pack of BIA + a special box set.... it was licenced not to be sold seperately so pcw management artificially put the barcode price up so its not sold as a seperate item.... unfortunatly... some bright sparks when doing the price tickets scan the promo items barcode instead of the bundle code... thus sticking a £99 sticker on it... thats why these people get put in the warehouse as not to embarass themselves in public ;)
