I drove diesel, my fathers car & my firms car. So for consume diesel is really better but not so while ago i bought Volvo S40 1.8cc 85Kw 115HP it goes over 100km/h in 2nd gear 
& really push adrenaline up.
EDIT: Try to put gas installation in petrol car, it consumes 10% more but it cost below half price of petrol (at least in Croatia)

in Poland most of people puting a gas instalation because is cheaper..
i have an '95 escort because new cars is soooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive,mostly of taxes ect...
i wonder how much cost a 1l of petrol in UK
in my city 1l = 3,80 zł with is about a half of a pound
