Max FPS

Postby Blotto » Wed May 19, 2004 5:12 pm

Ello, ave been trying to set my maximum fps to 76 both in-game and editing the .cfg but with no luck, it keeps going back to being 85, can someone tell me specificly what files I need to be changing and which lines to change so I know what am trying to edit is right.

Cheers

lo blotto

you need to edit the wolfconfig_mp.cfg file.

You need to edit 2 seperate copies of the file

one in shrub, which I already know you have done, but there is also
a copy in your MAIN folder, Im am guessing this one is still set at 85
and is reason you are getting the message latched 76. Change
this file and it will work.

The line you need to edit is:

Seta com_maxfps

Change it from 85 to 76 and save the file and then relaunch wolf.

Cheers Wolfeh, I have changed the files that you told me to change and it is still 85 and latched 76. I changed the maxfps line in wolfconfig_mp.cfg in the main folder from 85 to 76 and when I started RTCW it said 85 so I checked the same file again and it had changed back from 76 to 85!!! Any reason why it is doing that??? I think that may be my problem.

Hi blotto

No doesnt make sense why it is defaulting back to the old values.
Once the file has been saved it should remain at 76.

I would delete the cfg file in your main folder connect to rtcw, which
in doing so will create a new main cfg file. Quit wolf, try editing
the main cfg again. Also double check the shrub cfg file still states
76.

I am not 100% but im sure its the main cfg which is causing
the value of 76 to be latched.

blotto what kind of videocard you got?
If you got an Ati go to your options for videocard.
There is an option with wait for vertical sync.
If its turned at on the game stays on 76 or 85 but when you turn it off you can change the fps in your cfg

Do you also use Autoexec.cfg? If so, you need to change the settings on there in both folders as well m8. If you aren't using that file, you may want to. Here is a brief explanation as to what it is and what it does.

Go down and look at Stomiths 3rd post. It helped me a great deal.
The point of the journey is not to arrive.......

ok, my try now (soz i´m drunk):

Be sure that u have disabled vertical sync. for ur monitor!!!! it´s very important for "older" graphic cards! (old = half a year old)

For GeForce Cards:

How to:
Right click anywhere on your open desktop screen Select properties Select settings tab Select advanced. Select the GeForce card (Tab) Select additional properties Select the OpenGL tab Select the always off option next to Vertical sync – See screenshot Click OK, OK, OK Reboot the system You should now have Vertical Sync disabled.

ATI:

I dunno!!! SRY

It stays latched till u do a vid_restart (A game restart doesnt noramlly keep it either for some reason) so try /seta com_maxfps 85 then a /vid_restart

This will be needed to be done for all mods!

If that dont work dont phone me .. mine works :D

Ello there.

Cheers for all the replies, I have tried what you have all said and still no luck, the file keeps changing the fps value back to 85  but the strange thing is that the value changes back to 85 before I even connect to a game, it changes just as I enter Wolfenstein.

Am using a GeForce FX 5600 and I have disabled V Sync in the properties and have tried using the vid_resatart command in-game with no luck :(

Bah am doomed to a life of strugling to get on crates with a permanent fps of 85

im not sure if you tried this but it might work:

-delete (or backup) the wolfconfig_mp from the shrub folder.
-just start Wolfenstein, do not connect to a server.
-bring down the console and type: /seta com_maxfps 76
-hit enter, quit, and connect to a server.

Ok, I have fixed my fps :D I had to delete all the .cfg's in the main folder then create my own custom .cfg files and tell the autoexec.cfg to execute them and it seemed to work a charm :) so cheers for the help everyone, much appreciated!
