I have just had to format my PC and now im trying to have a game of cod2.....But the download speed for the maps is a max of 13Kbps.....

Is it always like this? or am i not doing something right?

I mean if this is normal, it will certanly stop new people comming to the server.

Is it possible to put map packs on some file-share server & then use link for download.

Probably not

Server files on an external host need to be in the exact same directories as they are on the server itself,
ie if there's a folder called "funmayhem" which contains a custom map "custommap.iwd" on the server, it will need to be in the exact same folder with the exact same filename on the external website.
Fileshare website usually rename files to some kind of gibberish, so for above mentioned reason, it will not work

You need to use HTTP redirection to get faster speeds. Im not sure what Mr.Mac means by file-server but you can put all needed "mod files" on some site and .zip em up but you need to extract em manually to correct to folder to get it working that way. Atm the mod/map downloads come from the "game server" without HTTP redirection and thats why they are slow.

Well however it works, we definatly need to get something sorted, cos this is just going to stop new people wanting to come to our server....

I dont mean to sound like im being pushy here, im just concerned for the comunity.

its a major issue.

Lets see if we can come up with something....even if it only temp.
