Except this is NOT Iraq.....

...this is the aftermath of the massive Oil Depot explosion north of London in Hemel Hempstead.... an explosion so powerful that it was heard as far away as The Netherlands and France. The resultinf fire send a cloud of soot and smoke high into the atmosphere right across the south east...

I personally saw it in Crawley which is miles away the other side of london.... here is the some satellite images.

The most amazing thing, the miracle is that nobody was killed and only 2 major injuries reported!

That is better for the environment

Most of that was fuel for aviation -- had it have been burned over time at the higher temperatures in jets - it would have eventually caused more damage (sulphure - nitrous - Co2).

This particular event has left the fuel burning cooler -- a fuel specialist at our company recons it will only burn half the fuel and convert the rest of the energy into carbon - hence all the soot (nasty looking black cloud) which will eventuallly fall to earth as carbon deposits - which are as harmful as burning wood in your back garden and you are left with the charcoal (carbon)
