[FuN] Closing down (Originally posted as April fools joke)

With much regret we wish to announce that all fun servers and websites will be closing down at the end of the week. I have talked with stom and we have no choice as the server hosts now refuse to support us due to a complaint over porn on the website and an up-and coming project that stom is working on.

The servers will go down at midnight on 7th April 2003 and FuN 4 Forums and EJN Media on 10th at midnight.

Alas, I have to work on a 'project' which will take me out of the country for a period of time. I am not allowed to say where I am going but I have known for some time that it was imminent.

I had originally hoped that frags could take it all on but it just isn't fair as he has commitments himself and maybe its just time that things move on.

I will make a final post tomorrow, but for now I have things to do with my family.

Well, some may have noticed that I type a lot in my posts, but because of what I'm feeling right now, I am gonna keep it short.
Thanks to all those I have met. I will not forget you.
It has been a great ride and I'm happy that it lasted this long.

Stom,

Wherever you're going I just have a few bits of advice:

1. Change your socks every day and try to keep the sand out of your boots.

2. Keep your chem suit within arms reach at all times and steal a kevlar vest to wrap around the package - it's no good with bullet holes in it.

3. Paint in big letters "We are NOT Iraqi" on the top of your troop carrier and know where the edges of the kill boxes are (friendly fire is ALWAYS on in the real thing).

4. There's no spawn flag.

5. there's no spawning!

With all the gossip machines that usually run 24 hours a day, I am surprised that only a few of us actually knew.

And Frags and Senecas new clan [EXF] was a nice touch. I couldn't stop laughing on gamers last night.

I have been involved with the Internet for over 7 years and I have never made any friends in anyway shape or form online, until I found the FUN servers. I really find the time that I spend on the servers to be very therapeutic, relaxing, and sometimes if I have a jack and coke next to my side, I feel like I’m in a pub with my chums having a good time.

Before I found these servers, I thought Wolf was just another game of show offs and punk cheaters that were good with headshots. When I came to FUN I saw how the game was supposed to be played and won, with serious Team Work. Its amazes me how I don’t know anything about someone I would meet in the tunnels, but somehow we are on the same page. We think alike, we shoot in the same way, we step in front of the line of fire for one another, only to show demonstrate a simple but important emotion that we all have.

Compassion for other people. :wink:

Yeah, I know what your saying, “Is that really BRUZZA saying that?”

I love this game and it’s the people on this server that make it special to me. :oops:

I honestly would hate to see such a wonderful community disappear. I understand that Fragsey must move on and make a living. ( I hope you stay safe), but if anyone else want to try to keep this going, let me know. And is that ok with everyone that I help even though I am not member of FUN?

I run a couple of companies, and have lots of friends in high places. (DON’T TELL ANYONE) maybe we can get some details worked out to keep this thing going. I CANT PROMISE ANYTHING. BUT I WILL TRY if I have HELP. Before we do, can someone answer these questions for me:

What type of server are the FUN servers?
What type of internet connection runs to them?
How much bandwidth does this consume on a montly basis?
What OS is the Fun Web Site running on?
How Big is it? Special components? MYSQL? Etc.
Who does the server admin?

If nothing develops out of this, please email me the IPS of the servers that you all find. Or maybe we can post it somewhere for others to see. Let’s keep it rolling guys n gals.

I'm not gonna say any mushy stuff because i'm tired and can't think straight at this time, but gamers is extremely important to me, it's the only server i play on apart from kittycarnage3, when i wanna play map rotation.
